Utopia: A Myth or A Distant Daydream?

“Utopia”, refers to a place where everything is perfect. However the term was first coined from Greek by Sir Thomas Moore, which meant any non existent society. However, in standard usage, the word’s meaning has narrowed and now usually describes a non-existent society that is intended to be viewed as considerably better than contemporary society.

Since the birth of mankind, progress based on all parameters have been inclined towards the making of a world which is perfect in all terms. Perfect, however is a very dangerous term in itself. The question lies here is first, have we understood what is Utopia and second how can it be achieved.

Though the textbook definition of Utopia is one which would appeal everyone, however the idea of living in an Utopian society has been itself criticized by the likes of those who have contributed in making the world a better place.

Living in a world, confined within social norms, a person always dreams of achieving Nirvana. However we are the prisoners held by the evils inculcated in our colony. Our minds fueled by self interests and soul ignited by dreams, we always try to climb up the pile to see the sunlight, pulling the others down because there’s only one way the occupant of the throne will go, and that is down. We incorporate methodologies which are focused on annihilating other’s hope at the same time sparking our interests to keep ourselves in pole position to win the race to the top. This very framework has been the venom poisoning the very hopes of achieving Utopia.

We, as the most intelligent species have failed to understand the terminology of Utopia which is not a place but it is you. We are the atoms of the world, the road-maps towards a better world lies within each and everyone of us though it has been shadowed by our greed. We are the building blocks of tomorrow, our achievements shall catalyze the future generations to start from where we left. The stories we write today will serve as a memorabilia to preserve for tomorrow. Humanity’s fate lies in its own hands.

We need to realize the fact that nothing can exist without its opposite. Starting from science, where anti-matter is the counterpart of matter,to emotions, where hope stands toe-to-toe with despair. Both cannot exist without each other. Both are oxygen to each other. Happiness comes along with sadness. Success comes along with failures. That’s how we grow, that’s how we learn and develop and adapt. We are just like the Phoenix, which is reborn again from its ashes, likewise we fall down and pick ourselves up again from the dirt and start from the scratch. Light is bright because of the darkness engulfing it,similarly we must be the candle, the ray of light for others in darkness so that together we all can walk down the path towards what lies ahead.

Utopia is the best version of you. It’s your effort, your passion, your dedication towards making the world a better place not only for you but for mankind. Its within you that the road to utopia is deep engraved. Utopia is a world which you envision to build.

    I think we are already in utopia. Just not in the orthodox definition. Utopia is the land of perfection. Our world is one of noise and war and blood and gore and life. But somehow all these chains of inconsistencies have merged. Like broken chords, they’ve formed a harmony. A perfect merge of good and bad .isnt that utopia?

    1. True . However utopia is an individual perception . For someone , their world may be dystopia and in chaos but in the eyes of those who do not enjoy the fair share of benefits as the former does , for them the former’s world is an Utopia . Though yes a perfect merge of good and bad is Utopia because as stated progress is the realisation of Utopias, and one cannot progress or learn or grow without experiencing the highs and lows of life .

      6. Well .. I wish only if we knew love is in its true sense rather than just being a materialistic appeal or an emotional bond which describes the broad term in a very vague manner

      8. I think the term “love” itself is very falsified . Love is meant to be natural and pure . Chaste in its terms . But we tend to search for it . Love is more of a transition state in your life when you indulge yourself to appreciate every thing and aspect about yourself . Love is a hybrid term to describe trust , faith , pride , confidence as well as ego and possession . As defined love is mutual , I guess it isn’t cause for me it all starts with loving yourself first , carving out the beauty of life , breathing in the essence of nature and harvesting seeds of confidence in yourself . That’s what love is for me

      10. Maybe and maybe not . Love is not tangible on all terms . Love shouldn’t be searched for rather should be waited for . Let time flow , maybe someday everyone will get their own reason to love
